Beet-Shake

Summer is officially here, in the city that never sleeps! Everyone knows there is nothing worse than eating when it's hot, you just feel sluggish and heavy, and end up napping your whole life away, I mean who wants to eat pasta in 32 degree weather? Not I. Cue smoothie game re up! You guys know I'm a believer in the smoothie, but in summer it literally becomes my staple diet. Quick, easy, cold and light; it's the perfect meal to keep you feeling active but nourished. This here is a Beetroot Milkshake, but plot twist, there's no milk. Packed with good carbs, anti-oxidants and protein, this pretty little liquid confection is a breakfast favourite. 


You will need:

  • 1 chunk frozen Beetroot (you can add more or less depending on how pink you want the milkshake. I added one square inch chunk and it came out a soft baby pink)
  • 1 frozen Banana
  • 1 1/2 cups Water
  • 1 scoop Protein Powder (I have two different protein powders, one is a soy protein which I use for the creamier shakes, and the other is a hemp protein which I use in more veggie based green juices)

Blend those babies all up, and dress with whatever your heart desires. I have a thing for matching and contrasting my toppings with the colour of my shakes, so on here I threw on some freeze dried Raspberries and toasted Coconut flakes. I should have added a tsp of Chia seeds on top for a little extra drama, but there's always tomorrow. Enjoy!
